Introduction One of the options that come with Netbackup is a plugin for integration with Virtual Center. VMware administrators can view the status of backups of their environment without having to access the Netbackup console. So far the process for them is simplified: Besides seeing the existing backups they can also know which machines have no backup, information very important as ...

Introduction It is quite common to have different views on backups between DBAs and Netbackup admins. DBAs want to be sure that backups are being performed correctly and often prefer to make backups to disk with their own tools and after that Netbackup will do a backup to another repository to ensure backups lifecycle. However, this double copy has several problems: There is no ...

There is no denying that data is invaluable. It underpins everything we do, especially being in the digital age. If anything happens to any of our servers we use backup copies to restore lost data. We use data to make decisions; some simple and others life changing e.g. using data to develop cures for illnesses. We use data to bring to market new applications. We use data to enable us to move ...

One of the central tenets of DevOps is the ability to do more faster. Of course this often manifests itself in delivering code more often and more quickly. In order to do this App Developers are always looking to remove the next bottleneck in the process. One of the toughest is access to data. Whether it be data access to your test and dev environment or data access as part of your general IT ...

One of the more complicated facets of NetBackup is that the 'copy number' of a backup image bears no relation to its locality/residence/age or duplication life history. The copy number of a backup image is an arbitary number, and does not convey any meaning other than the fact that a copy of the image exists. For example, imagine an SLP that has two stages.  The first stage ...

Some forum posters are unable to post even fragments of, let alone complete, raw log files for NetBackup. If a poster takes a copy of the attached script and places it on their desktop they will then be able to drag'n'drop log files onto the script icon, and then the script will create a copy of the log file, but with all of the pre-configured sensitive text replaced, and place the ...

As NetBackup images in Catalog is the most critical part of NetBackup. There is an option in the GUI under catalog where any of the admin can easily expire the images by accidently by right clicking. Image expiration in production environment is very dangerous part and allowing bulk expiration through GUI is not acceptable to any of the origination. As we have known NetBackup for command ...

I thought it always did this, but clearly have been mistaken, especially since the release of BE 2015 FR4. It would be useful to allow a job stage to remain 'On hold', when the job stage is 'Run Now', so that the status of the job stage, doesn't change. Probably via an extra dialog window 'This job stage is set to 'on hold' would you like to retain that status' - Yes/No - with No being the ...

I have opened tickets multiple times for this.  When adding a new storage shelf to an appliance it is ridiculously easy to expand an MSDP pool into the local storage of the appliance. Best practice is to not do this. I've done this with support watching me. Each of us agreeing we should not be expanding into local storage - and yet we do. It used to be easy enough to fix. I would shrink ...

Hello, When using VMware ASC, we can protect Exchange/Sharepoint/SQL by ticking the applicable option in the VMware tab, enabling us to create a consistent / recoverable image for active or passive DB's.
